The Artist’s Abode

The artist’s apartment has been one of my favorite projects to date. When we initially met, she was looking for help getting organized and creating storage space for the items she had accumulated in 20+ years in the apartment. However, the more we talked the more we both realized she didn’t need furniture for storage but instead, she needed to pare down her belongings and make a fresh start.

So that’s exactly what we did. We kept the walls neutral so that her decades of art could become the focal point. We combined the idea of a gallery wall and a papered accent wall into one by covering an entire space in the living room with her art. She wanted it to feel orderly, yet still like a studio space, so we used a combination of framed pieces, push pins and binder clips to hang her art. We created smaller vignettes of art in other areas to create the feeling of an inhabitable gallery.
